Seek God First

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and then all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33

On Sunday I went out by myself to go grocery shopping. My husband knows that sometimes I enjoy going alone so he watched the kids for me. I stopped and grabbed breakfast and was listening to a word on youtube. God really convicted me while I was listening to it. I haven’t been consistently spending time with him. I would pray throughout the day but wasn’t sitting down and having a designated time with him. Truthfully I didn’t think it was a bad thing. I felt God tug at my heart and say is it better for you to talk to your husband a little bit here and there or to spend uninterrupted time alone together. I thought wow he’s right. There are many times I feel disappointed or sad when I can’t have that one on one time with my husband. How much more does God feel that about me? How many times do I brush off spending time with God to do something that I deem more important? It probably happens more time than I think. I want to encourage you to spend time with God. Give him your full attention. Cause he will not only listen but he will also speak to you.

Spring Caring

Spring is in full bloom. I have been busy in our home preparing for this new season of our lives. There is a lot of changes we have been making and talking about. Preparing for a future and seeking God in all that we do. I have also been spring cleaning but I’ve found myself calling it spring caring. You see I have not just been cleaning but I’ve been mending our clothes as well. I have an ever growing list of holes to fix, clothes to re dye, and new things to make to fill the gaps on our (more my) wardrobe.

It has been fun which is so surprising for me to admit that. I used to get rid of clothes when they have seemed to reach the end of their life and I never thought to try to resell my old clothes to buy newer clothes. Yet this is exactly what I’ve been doing. I took my kids clothes to a store to resell them and I was able to find some good items for them there. My mindset and my heart has very much changed since being married. I treasure things more and take better care of things. I find good things that will last and try to be smart about what I buy.

God has opened my eyes to see that what we have He has blessed us with and it is enough. That’s not to say we aren’t going to need new things or can’t replace things that no longer work or serve a purpose in our life. It’s that we can choose to stay content in what we have and what he has blessed us with. We can always ask him for things and he will supply our needs. But let us first look around and see all that we have and thank him for it.

Such a Time As This

Luke 24:6-7
“He is not here; he has risen!”

It’s the week of Easter, truthfully this week has brought me so much joy. The trees and flowers are in full bloom. The birds are chirping in the early mornings. I feel as if all of this is to praise and rejoice in the risen King Jesus Christ. Easter reminds us of the hope and forgiveness we received from Christ.

I’ve grown up in a Christian household but truthfully Easter wasn’t as celebrated as it should have been. It always felt like just another holiday. Yet now that I have a family I really want them to appreciate and remember what Christ has done. That he came to bring new life and save us. I don’t ever want them to forget. So this weekend we are going to be spending time together cooking and talking all about what the Lord has done. I hope you too remember and share this joyous occasion with your family.

Intro to my blog

There is a time for everything, and a season  for every activity under the heavens.  Ecclesiastes 3:1

In the last few months I’ve been inspired by  the slow living movement, the homestead  ideas, and homemaking. I’ve wanted to live a  more meaningful and fulfilling life. This day  and age is full of the fast paced more money  life and yet I find myself yearning for  something more. I want to appreciate and  love my family and our house. I don’t want to  be held down by consumerism and wasting  money. I want to live slow and simply. This is  my blog all about my journey. I want to use it  as a journal to share my progress and for me  to see how far I have come throughout the  years. Come with me as I learn to slow down  and appreciate the little things in life.
